When 100 donors make a gift to the MIT Press, an additional $10,000 from a generous alumnus will be unlocked to support the bookstore’s programs, events, and community engagement.

The MIT Press Bookstore is celebrating its 45th anniversary this year. For more than four decades, the MIT Press Bookstore has been a place where ideas come to life and knowledge is shared. Every contribution, large or small, sustains a space in which readers can encounter the latest in art, architecture, design, computer science, cognition, and more.

About the MIT Press Bookstore

Since 1962, the MIT Press has been a leader in university publishing, innovating at the intersection of science, technology, art, social science, and design. Nowhere is this more apparent than at the MIT Press Bookstore.

Located in the heart of Kendall Square in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the bookstore remains one of the few stores owned and operated by a university press. Shelves are stocked with books and journals published by the MIT Press, as well as a curated selection of other publishers’ books about art and architecture, computer science, cognition, neuroscience, and linguistics. The bookstore features a full children’s section, including writings on STEAM topics for young people published by Candlewick Press under the MIT Kids Press and MITeen Press imprints.

The bookstore also participates in 50+ events per year around MIT and Cambridge, including author talks and conferences.

This year, during the MIT 24-Hour Challenge, we’re inviting friends of the bookstore and the MIT Press to help ensure that the bookstore continues to thrive for another 45 years—and beyond!
